The Spectacular Ford Everest Sport

Ford Everest Category is: Vehicular Facelift!

In recent years, Ford has been revamping the attributes of its flagship bakkies and 4x4s – and I’m loving it! And just months after the motor company launched the iconic Raptor and Raptor SE, both models sporting a revamped look that aimed to make heads turn. Ford is now bringing us an all new Everest which has seemingly taken a page out of the Raptor SE design book with cooler features and new tech. For this post, I will be solely focused on one of my favourites, the Everest Sport.

For seven glorious days I had the pleasure of test driving the Ford Everest Sport and when I say I could not get enough of it, I mean it! Now as an fyi, while I still have reservations about how cumbersome models of this particular design feel at the wheel, I have accepted how it is part of the charm of a spacious SUV and the timing couldn’t have been more perfect as I had a range of errands to run and that presented ample opportunities to put the Everest Sport to the test.

Exterior:

Take your pick from either a 4×4 or 4×2 setting to suit your toughest experiences on and off the road, and although Ford does not typically invest in tailgate assist, I deeply felt that the Everest Sport could have used this feature. Not to fret though, it makes up for it with a striking design of some refurbishment to the grill and 3D Ford badge which completely changes the look of the Everest.

What’s also exciting is the range of colours you can choose from, with my personal favourites being the agate black or opt for the moondust silver. The obvious stand-out items is definitely the 20-inch wheels.

Interior:

I love how soft the interior leather is! However, in the same light I felt that the blue stitching was a bit jarring and didn’t complement the luxurious air I was getting – Ford could do with offering colourful stitching as an add-on as I believe that particular creative addition is more of a nice-to-have depending on your personal taste. Given that it is a 7-seater, there is plenty of space to go around and you still have the option to completely transform the interior and open up more space by laying the seats down.

In addition, Everest Sport also boasts LED headlamps and daytime running lights; cruise control; front and rear park sensors and a rear- view camera. It also comes with your standard infotainment system that is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android. The Everest Sport is powered by Ford’s 2.0-litre single-turbocharged diesel engine offering 132 kW and 420 Nm of torque and comes with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

I’m still harping on the hope that the manufacturer will consider including tailgate assist at some point, although I’m not sure how this will affect all the other running parts of the car. Because it uses diesel and it is such a heavy car, it makes acceleration feel like a bit of an arduous drag but, overall, I enjoyed driving this head-turner a lot more than I care to admit.

Interestingly, I received my fair share of sexist comments from men around my neighbourhood – something about women and not driving big cars and honestly if that intimidates them, then this is definitely the car for women girlboss like never before! You know, make people a bit uncomfortable without saying anything? I could not stop looking at that 3D lettering, it is the best thing that Ford has done in years honestly.

Damage to your pocket:

The Everest and all other Ford models come with Ford Protect, which means you get:

A four-year/120 000km comprehensive warranty; Three-year/unlimited distance roadside assistance; Five-year/unlimited km corrosion warranty; A six-year/90 000km service plan, with 15 000km service intervals.
